  17. <p>    Is Raisa Gorbachev becoming the prima donna of perestroika?
  18. In rare coverage of the Soviet leader's wife, TASS quoted her
  19. last week as she spoke out on her husband's reforms and the role
  20. of women in world peace at a Moscow reception honoring
  21. International Women's Day. "Soviet people are putting into
  22. practice plans of revolutionary restructuring," the Soviet First
  23. Lady said. "We want our public life . . . to be worthy of a
  24. human being."
  25. </p>
  26. <p>    Observers credit Mrs. Gorbachev's new prominence to both
  27. glasnost and her natural self-confidence. But not all Soviets
  28. approve of Raisa's high profile. Groused one Muscovite: "What
  29. is the meaning of Raisa this, Raisa that? Am I supposed to live
  30. like she does?" At a televised celebration at the Bolshoi
  31. Theater after her speech, it was clear that she has not totally
  32. broken the traditional mold of Soviet leaders' spouses. Mikhail
  33. Gorbachev sat on the dais, while Raisa watched from the
  34. audience.
